Physiopathies: how to prevent them with DEMETRA's main products

Plant alterations caused by non-pathogenic or infectious agents are called PHYSIOPATHIES. The origin of physiopathies must be researched in weathering (hail, light, cold, humidity...), trauma or wounds, soil and atmosphere conditions or NUTRITIONAL IMBALANCE, this last problem can be avoided with a plan of preventive nutrition with selected products.

In this newsletter we will talk about desiccation of the leaf, which can occur both on vegetables or fruit crops, especially on cucurbits or pear. Moreover, we will treat about Bunch Stem Necrosi (grapevine), apple leaf fall which often occur on Golden variety and tomato’s apical rot.

We will see that these physiopathies are connected each other concerning preventive treatments that should be done to avoid problem on the crops.

- DESICCATION OF THE LEAF ON CUCURBITS

In summer, a desiccation of the leaf could occur in case of nutritional imbalance which is more remarkable on specific soil and crops (melon, for examples, is a cucurbits really sensible to this problem). It is suggested to use products containing calcium and magnesium, combined with amino acids for foliar application.

Our suggested products, for foliar application are: NITROMELON 221 L, CREVITAL, VEGAFOIL, MARFOL SF;

- DESICCATION OF THE LEAF ON PEAR

This kind of physiopathie ofter appear in some varieties of pear such as Cultivar, Conference and William.

In some flat area of Italy it could be difficult to defend crops because temperature could be too high so it is essential to treat pears in a preventive way and very early in the season (beginning of May), leaving all the fertilizers made of salt by replacing them with products made of amino acids.
Our suggested products, for foliar application are: CREVITAL, VEGAFOIL, MARFOL SF;

- BUNCH STEM NECROSI ON GRAPEVINE

A complex alteration of environmental condition leads to a desiccation of bunches which means a loss in production. It is important to integrate the traditional fertilization with calcium and magnesium.

CALCIMAG N is our product, very suggested for foliar application.

- LEAF FALL ON APPLES

After a desiccation, leaves of apple trees could fall too early, in summer. This alteration is due to deficiencies of magnesium and manganese which can be avoid by using fertilizers made of these elements.
Our suggested products, for foliar application are: MAGNESIO 15 PS + MICRO, MANGANESE CHELATO L, MAGNESIO NT L, MANGANESE L

- APICAL ROT ON TOMATOES

This physiopathie can occur frequently on tomatoes, due to a deficiency of calcium and magnesium and often connected to a water problem.

Also in this case, it is essential to intervene beforehand with products conteining these two elements.
Our suggested products, for foliar application are: NITROMELON 221 L, CALCIUM KELATE, CALCIFIX L, BRIOCALL FORTE PS, CLORCAL PLUS.

To resume, the appropriate nutritional elements to prevent physiopathies are calcium, magnesium and manganese in addition to amino acids.
